Hemp & Cannabinoids

Is hemp cannabis?

Hemp and cannabis are the same species, Cannabis Sativa L. However, the name "hemp" is often used to refer to plants or products that contain low levels of THC and do not make you high. In contrast, the name “cannabis” refers to plants or products that have a high THC content and can make you high.

What is medical cannabis?

Medical cannabis is simply a cannabis plant or product that is used for medical purposes. Psychoactive effects aside, the cannabis plant also has many notable medical values. Medical cannabis has been used to help with a multitude of different health conditions, such as depression, insomnia, pain, nausea, epilepsy, or even cancer.

What is cannabinoid?

Cannabinoids are a group of active substances found in the cannabis plant. They are responsible for the psychological and physiological responses of the human body when consuming cannabis.

What types of cannabinoids are there?

Currently, there are more than 100 different cannabinoids discovered by scientists. Each cannabinoid has its own characteristics and effects. The two most important cannabinoids are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). In addition, there are a number of other secondary cannabinoids that are also worth mentioning, such as CBG, CBN, CBC, THCV...

What is THC?

THC is Tetrahydrocannabinol. It is the main active compound found in the cannabis plant, known for its ability to cause psychoactive effects, also known as “feeling high". THC also has many other medical effects such as analgesic, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic, anti-nausea, anti-cancer, etc.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) was one of the first phyto-cannabinoids discovered. Unlike THC, CBD does not cause a high. In contrast, CBD has the potential to help users combat the high effects of THC. Medically, CBD also has a variety of effects that are not inferior to those of THC. The most typical are antipsychotic, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic and anti-cancer...

Can CBD make you high?

CBD alone can’t make you high.

Is CBD legal?

CBD is not on the list of banned substances. As long as the THC content of your CBD product is within the limits of your local law, your CBD is legal.

Is CBD the same as medical cannabis?

CBD products can be considered a form of medical cannabis. However, not all medical cannabis products are CBD.

What is Rick Simpson Oil (RSO)?

RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) is the name for a highly concentrated cannabis oil extracted by the Rick Simpson method. This oil has a very high cannabinoid content, usually over 80%.

Is CBD RSO?

No.

Is CBD Addictive?

No. CBD has no risk of addiction or dependence.

Does CBD have side effects?

Possible side effects when using CBD are dizziness, low blood pressure, changes in eating habits, dry mouth, nausea, drowsiness, diarrhea and psychological effects (if the product contains THC). However, most people who use CBD experience no side effects and if they do, they are relatively mild.

It should be noted, though, that the greatest risk when using cannabis or CBD comes from drug interactions. Cannabinoid therapy can cause elevation of liver enzymes and interactions with drugs metabolized by the liver via the cytochrome P450 enzymes. This interaction will increase or decrease the concentration of other drugs in the blood, causing the side effects of those drugs. This is especially important if you are taking chemotherapy or seizure medications, as these types of treatment require precise doses.

Will CBD cure my illness?

CBD does not and cannot replace conventional medicine, but it can help you improve your health. If you are looking to use CBD, you can ask for advice from the HEMP SAPA team.

Why do we still lack scientific research?

Although CBD was discovered many years ago, due to the cannabis prohibition, studies on hemp and CBD were almost impossible. Hopefully, when medical marijuana/hemp is widely legalized around the world, more research on CBD will be conducted.

What are the effects when I take CBD?

The effects of CBD are different from that of THC. It doesn't make you high and can be hard to feel. Typically, people using CBD will feel more relaxed and calm. If your body is experiencing inflammation or pain, you may also find these symptoms being alleviated quickly.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is an important system responsible for regulating most of our body's functions. These include: pain sensations, movements, emotions, digestion, metabolism, immune system, memory, reproduction, cell cycle, bone and joint development, and many other processes. ECS activity was summed up in 1998 by Professor Di Marzo as, “rest, eat, sleep, forget and defend”.

The endogenous cannabinoid system is maintained and operated by endogenous cannabinoids (anandamide and 2AG) along with the cannabinoid receptor system (CB1 and CB2). When using cannabis, the phyto-cannabinoids in the cannabis will also interact with the endogenous cannabinoid system in our body.

What are cannabinoid receptors and where are they located?

Our bodies produce our own substances called endogenous cannabinoids. These cannabinoids will act on cannabinoid receptors. There are two main types of cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. CB1 is found mainly in the nervous system. CB2 is found mainly in the immune system.

How does THC work?

THC activates both CB1 and CB2 receptors. Activation of CB1 receptors in the brain causes you to feel high.

How does CBD work?

CBD also acts on the endocannabinoid system, but not directly on CB1 or CB2 like the way THC does. Instead, CBD may act indirectly by inhibiting the breakdown of the endogenous cannabinoid anandamide (making the effects of anandamide last longer, stronger, meaning more pain-relieving and stress-relieving effects). CBD can also neutralize the effects of THC, helping to reduce the cannabis high. In addition, CBD also acts on receptors of other systems, such as:

Serotonin 5HT1A receptor (antidepressant effect).

TRPV1 receptor (regulatory effect on pain sensation and inflammatory response).

PPAR-gamma nuclear receptor (effects: neuroprotection, memory and cognition regulation, analgesia, homeostatic regulation, insulin sensitivity, energy metabolism. This receptor also plays an important role in cancer).

Orphan receptor GPR55 (anti-osteoporosis and cancer effect).

What is THCA?

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) is the precursor to THC. When first harvested, the cannabis plant contains very little THC, but mostly THCA instead. Through the process of decarboxylation via time, light, or under the influence of temperature, THCA will be converted to THC. THCA does not have the same psychological effects as THC.

Research shows that THCA may have antiemetic, antioxidant, antiepileptic, and anticancer effects.

What is CBDA?

Cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) is a precursor to CBD. When first harvested, the cannabis plant contains very little CBD, but mainly CBDA instead. Through the process of decarboxylation via time, light, or under the influence of temperature, the CBDA in the cannabis plant is converted to CBD.

CBDA does not cause high and has antiemetic and antidepressant effects.

What is CBG?

Cannabigerol is a minor cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, but has also been attracting a lot of attention from scientists in recent times. Experimental and in vitro animal studies have suggested that CBG has the potential to increase appetite, and has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, digestive improvement, and cancer prevention properties.

The acid form of CBG, CBGA, is the precursor to every other cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. When the cannabis plant wants to synthesize THCA or CBDA, or any other cannabinoid, it has to go through CBGA synthesis first. Therefore, in the early flowering stage, the cannabinoid in cannabis is mainly CBGA, then it will be gradually replaced by THCA or CBDA. Thus, producers can choose the right flowering time to extract CBGA.

What is CBN?

The flowers of the cannabis/hemp plant have very little CBN content, as CBN is mainly produced not by biological processes in the plant, but by THC conversion when exposed to oxygen and light in the air after a certain time.

CBN is widely believed to have a very strong sleep-inducing effect. The reason is that many people store cannabis for a long time, and when they smoke it, they feel a strong drowsiness effect. In fact, aged cannabis products will have higher levels of CBN.

However, this is only a hypothesis. It is possible that this sleepy effect comes from another reason, possibly due to the loss of other terpenes. In fact, there are no scientific studies to confirm that CBN has a sedating effect, and it seems that CBN only produces this effect when combined with THC.

Currently, CBN is being studied for its effects such as pain relief, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer properties, and to increase appetite.

What is CBC?

Cannabichromene is a minor cannabinoid in cannabis. Similar to other lesser-known cannabinoids, CBC has not been well studied. However, CBC has been shown to reduce fat formation and inflammation in human skin cells, suggesting that this cannabinoid may help you fight acne. Experiments on mice have also shown the ability to reduce intestinal motility, reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and fight depression. CBC may also have effects against certain strains of bacteria and against cancer.

What are Terpenes?

Terpenes are molecules that contribute to the characteristic aroma and smell of different plants. Each terpene has its own unique aroma, and may have certain medicinal effects. Terpenes are an integral part of medical cannabis.

Why are terpenes important?

Terpenes can provide a variety of health benefits. They can work with cannabinoids to create an “entourage effect,” which can influence how you feel and how your body will react to cannabis. In addition, terpenes can also increase the effectiveness of cannabinoids.

What is the entourage effect?

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Thus, working together, the cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis work synergistically, amplifying their own medical effects. This is called the entourage effect.

Because of this, whole plant full-spectrum extracts will be far more effective than isolates.

What is Myrcene?

This terpene is the most abundant in cannabis (can make up 60% of the essential oil), and is also found in abundance in hops, sour fruits, laurel, musk, lemongrass, eucalyptus and many other plants. Its smell is described as being quite similar to that of cloves. In addition, many cannabis users report that they achieve a stronger "high" when smoking marijuana after eating mangoes. This effect may come from the synergistic effect of myrcene with cannabinoid.

Possible medicinal effects of myrcene are: sedating, soothing, analgesic, anticancer and antioxidant.

What is Limonene?

The fresh and citrusy smell of orange, lemon, and grapefruit peels is due to limonene. This terpene is also present in abundance in certain strains of cannabis, giving it a hint of orange and lemon. Limonene may help THC users feel more alert and at ease.

Possible medicinal effects are: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, pain-relieving, anti-cancer and anti-diabetes.

What is Beta-caryophyllene?

This is the terpene that contributes to the spicy and strong aroma of black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, basil, etc., and is also present in some cannabis strains. Beta-caryophyllene has the ability to help reduce the high effect of THC, similar to limonene. Interestingly, beta-caryophyllene has the ability to act on CB2 receptors, so many people also consider this terpene to be a cannabinoid.

This terpene is believed to help fight inflammation, aid sleep, cancer, and relieve pain.

What is Pinene?

Pinene is the source of the smell of pine trees. This terpene is especially abundant in turpentine. They are also found in many other plants, such as dandelion or rosemary.

In therapeutic medicine, this terpene is used for its expectorant, bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. In addition, it also helps improve memory. Pinene has the potential to help cannabis users reduce the short-term memory loss side effects of THC.

What is Terpineol?

This terpene contributes to the scent of lilac. Alpha-terpineol has been known for its relaxing, antioxidant, antibiotic, and antimalarial effects. In addition, it can also be anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea and can help you sleep.

What is Linalool?

The scent of lavender has long been used as a sleep aid. This terpene also has antidepressant, antipsychotic, anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anticonvulsant properties.

Linalool has also been licensed for use as a flavoring in natural insecticides. Steam containing linalool is a good remedy for repelling insects such as fruit flies, lice, and cockroaches.

What is Humulene?

Humulene, also known as α-humulene or α-caryophyllene, is a terpene that bestows the deep, slightly spicy aroma of hops. Hops are a close relative of cannabis, and coincidentally, many cannabis strains also contain a significant amount of Humulene.

Humulene is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and appetite-reducing effects.

Choosing your product

What is CBD isolate?

CBD isolate is 99.9% CBD. It contains no THC, cannabinoid or any other compounds. Due to the lack of the entourage effect, the medicinal effects of CBD isolate are very limited, and you have to take more CBD to get the desired results compared to a full spectrum product.

What is full spectrum CBD?

Whole plant extract or full spectrum extract, are products that contain CBD along with all the different cannabinoid, terpene, flavonoid... in them, so you will get the entourage effect of cannabis.

What is broad spectrum CBD?

This is the same as full spectrum CBD extracts, without the THC. These are products for areas where THC is strictly prohibited, or for those who don't want to consume any amount of THC.

What are the differences between CBD and cold pressed hemp oil?

Cold pressed hemp seed oil is pressed from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp seeds have high nutritional value, but do not contain CBD. You can easily buy hemp seed oil in grocery stores and supermarkets.

CBD oil is extracted from the stems, leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. These parts contain CBD.

What is the best CBD extract I can get?

A good CBD extract should be:

High in minor-cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. (Full or broad spectrum)

Extracted from high quality ingredients.

Good extraction method: clean, no residual solvents, toxic chemicals, heavy metals…

Comes with Certificate of Analysis.

HEMP SAPA CBD Oil proudly meets all these criterias.

What are CBD edibles?

Cannabinoids can be absorbed via the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, people can add CBD to their food. CBD edibles are simply foods (mainly cakes, brownies, candies, drinks, etc.) that contain CBD.

Can I smoke/vape a CBD product?

HEMP SAPA Full-spectrum CBD extract (CBD drop) cannot be smoked, vaped or vaporized.

If you want to smoke or vaporize CBD, you can try our CBD distillates, CBD isolates, or terpene blends.

Does my product have THC?

Among HEMP SAPA products, if it is listed as a full-spectrum extract, that means it contains THC but in very small amounts, which is within the legal limit established by European and Czech laws.

If the product is listed as a broad-spectrum extract or CBD isolate, it does not contain THC.

Why is CBD so expensive?

It takes a large amount of raw material to produce a small amount of CBD. In addition, the ban on hemp cultivation in the past also limits the current supply of CBD. In the future, we believe that the cost of CBD will become cheaper as hemp cultivation becomes more popular.

I found a CBD product which is very cheap. Is it good?

CBD being so cheap can be a bad sign. However, CBD products that are too expensive are not necessarily good.

Best thing to do is to find out if the CBD product you want to buy comes with Certifications of Analysis, including: cannabinoid and terpene content, pesticide residues, solvent residues, heavy metals, microorganisms and fungi.

How to read a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?

First, you need to pay attention to the time that the product is taken for quality inspection. Next, see if the cannabinoid content is sufficient and corresponds to the amount stated on the label, and if it contains any amount of THC that is over the limit of the law. Don't forget to further check if other cannabinoids and terpenes are present in the product, meaning whether it is full-spectrum, broad spectrum or CBD isolates, and compare it to the label.

In addition, you also need to look through for residues of solvents, chemicals, heavy metals, etc.

How to use

How is CBD absorbed into my body?

You can take CBD through sublingual, gastrointestinal, inhalation, or even rectal/vaginal routes.

Different pathways of absorption may require different types of CBD products, specifically tailored for these pathways.

When is the best time to take CBD?

You can take CBD any time you want or deem necessary.

However, it is still best to take CBD with or after meals. CBD is better absorbed when taken with food.

What is my dosage?

Always start with a small dose and increase it gradually. Each person will need a different dose. The dose you need to take is the dose at which you feel the best effect.

How to find my optimal dose?

Stick to the "start low go slow" rule. Start with a small dose and increase the dosage every 2-3 days to allow the body to adapt to the increased CBD content. Your body may also need some time to adjust. Therefore, be patient, at least for the first 3 weeks of use.

Do I need to use THC?

If you have some more serious problems that require medical cannabis, like cancer, epilepsy, or if you've been taking CBD and it doesn't work, you may want to consider THC.

However, THC is illegal in many places. Be sure to know the law and consult your doctor before taking THC.

Do I need to follow any specific diet?

Using CBD does not require any dietary restrictions. However, we still encourage a healthy diet and physical activities to accelerate the process of improving your health.

Can I use other supplements too?

Using CBD does not require any other supplements. But you can use other supplements if you want.

Can I use CBD with my prescription drugs?

You can take CBD with your prescribed medicine. Be aware, however, that the two may have adverse interactions. Consult a medical professional before taking CBD with prescription medications.

Can pregnant women take CBD?

Pregnant women can take CBD. If you are concerned about THC, you can opt for broad-spectrum extract products. They do not contain THC at all.

Can children take CBD?

Children can take CBD. If you are concerned about THC, you can opt for broad-spectrum extract products. They do not contain THC at all.

Can elderly people take CBD?

Elderly people can take CBD. If you are concerned about THC, you can opt for broad-spectrum extract products. They do not contain THC at all.

Can I give CBD to my cats and dogs?

Animals also have endogenous cannabinoid systems. You can absolutely give CBD to your pets!

Why haven't I seen any improvement?

Maybe the dose is not enough, you can increase the dose gradually to find the right dose. Please be patient. You can take weeks to feel the effects of CBD.

However, there are also many people who do not respond to CBD. If you are one of these people, you may want to consider using another form of extract, or other brands of CBD.

How long does it take for CBD to work?

Some people can feel the effect immediately. However, there are also cases where it takes days, even 2-3 weeks to feel the benefits.

Does CBD cause tolerance if used long term?

Although studies have shown that CBD does not build tolerance. However, there are some cases where CBD suddenly loses its effectiveness. Interestingly, sometimes increasing the dose is not as effective as lowering it. Your body can change its sensitivity to CBD in both directions, needing more CBD or needing less CBD. If this happens, the recommended solution is to cut the dose in half, then gradually increase it again like you used to do when you first started using CBD, until you find your new optimal dose.

Is there any harm in taking high doses of CBD?

CBD is mostly harmless, even in high doses. However, if you experience side effects, you may want to consider reducing the dose. Also, make sure to check for unwanted drug interactions.

Is CBD expensive?

While we are passionate about providing the highest quality CBD products at the most affordable prices, it is a fact that the overall cost of CBD is currently quite expensive. In the future, we truly hope that CBD can become cheaper once hemp is widely cultivated. This way, everyone, no matter rich or poor, can use CBD to improve their health.

Can I use CBD for a long period?

Our CBD products are 100% natural and can be used for a long period, daily. The human body easily adapts to CBD supplements and no serious side effects have been detected so far. Many people have used CBD without any problems.

Side effects

What to do if CBD makes my blood pressure drop?

If you feel dizzy, you should rest. Drinking water with salts can help raise your blood pressure. Some people will also feel better when they drink honey and ginger tea.

Take your blood pressure regularly. Consult your doctor if you experience this often.

CBD causes me to lose sleep?

Studies show that CBD isolates may keep you awake. Even so, fully extracted CBD can help you relax and fall asleep more easily.

If you feel that CBD is making it difficult for you to sleep, you can reduce the dose, or use CBD during the day instead of night.

CBD makes me feel nauseous?

Nausea when using CBD can be due to your taste bud disliking the product taste, using too high a dosage, or a sensitive digestive system. If CBD makes you nauseous, there are a few things you can try:

Reduce the dose.

Take CBD with meals.

Add CBD to food to drown out the taste

CBD makes me high?

Theoretically, the amount of THC in our products is very small. Most people can't feel high when using our CBD.

However, some people who are sensitive to THC may still experience a high when taking full-spectrum CBD. Another possibility is that your dosage is too high.

If CBD makes you high and you feel uncomfortable, you can reduce the dose to make you feel more comfortable.

Is that CBD causing my elevated liver enzymes?

There is research that suggests that long-term and high doses of CBD isolate can cause elevated liver enzymes, which is a sign of liver damage. However, with normal doses of CBD and in full-spectrum form, the risk of CBD causing liver damage appears to be very small. In addition, indirectly, the risk of liver damage can also come from unwanted drug interactions with CBD.

If your liver enzymes are elevated while taking CBD, seek help from your medical professionals.

Drug interactions

What is CYP450?

CBD when ingested orally inhibits or enhances cytochrome P450 enzymes, a family of liver enzymes that play a role in drug metabolism. These enzymes are involved in the metabolism of many existing medications. This inhibition of CYP450 may change the concentration of drug metabolites inside the body, causing a higher risk of side effects.

In addition, CBD may lower your blood pressure. You will probably need to adjust the dose of your blood pressure medication.

What drugs interact with CBD?

Drugs that are metabolized by the CYP450 enzymes. This includes a wide range of current medications, such as some anti-seizure medications, chemotherapy drugs, blood thinners, antidepressants, etc.

Consult your healthcare professional to see if your medication may interact with CBD.

How to know if the drug interactions are affecting me?

Be careful and pay attention to your body's reactions. CBD can synergize the effects of other drugs on the patient's body, causing side effects or the risk of drug toxicity.

If you experience any side effects, immediately contact a medical professional to adjust the dose of the drug accordingly.

Nutrition

What is hemp seed?

Hemp seeds are the seeds of the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa L.), which is rich in nutrients and is considered a superfood. Hemp seeds are rich in protein and essential fats, making them a great addition to your diet.

What is a complete protein?

Out of the 21 amino acids that make up proteins, 9 of them are essential amino acids, meaning that the human body cannot synthesize these 9 amino acids on its own, but must depend on food.

A complete protein source should be able to provide all nine essential amino acids. Animal meats are complete proteins. Meanwhile, plant-based foods are mostly not.

Are hemp seeds a complete protein source?

Yes. They can be considered as a complete protein source, as they contain all 9 essential amino acids.

What is cold pressed hemp seed oil?

It is hemp seed oil that is cold pressed, meaning without the use of heat or any solvents. Cold pressed hemp oil is an incredibly valuable source of healthy fats. The oil is light green in color, has an earthy, nutty and herbal flavor.

What are essential fats?

Essential fats are fats that are necessary for the normal development and functioning of the human body, but we cannot synthesize them on our own. Instead, we get essential fats through food.

What are Omega-3, 6?

Omega-3 and Omega-6 are two types of essential fats, extremely necessary for the development of the brain, skin, hair, maintaining bone health, fighting inflammation and improving the immune system. The human body cannot develop and function well without them, especially children and pregnant women.

What are the benefits of omega 3 fats?

Omega-3 is one of the important components that make up the walls of cells in the body. In addition, it also works in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, reducing blood fat, cholesterol. In addition, it is also a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Why is too much Omega-6 bad?

Some studies suggest that Omega-6 is bad because too much Omega-6 can cause inflammation and increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The root of this claim comes from the observation that there is a link between diets high in Omega-6 in Western societies and increased rates of obesity and cardiovascular diseases. However, keep in mind that Omega-6 is also an essential fat. It is important that the omega-3 / omega-6 ratio you are getting from a diet is balanced.

The current American diet has a very unbalanced ratio of Omega-6 : Omega-3, possibly up to more than 20 : 1. Therefore, nutritionists often recommend that you reduce your intake of omega-6 fat sources, and increase your intake of omega-3 fat sources.

Fish oil, flaxseed oil, hemp seeds and oil are all good sources of omega-3 fats.

Do I need to be on a diet while taking CBD?

No. But it’s still recommended that you limit your unhealthy foods like fast food, foods with too much added sugar, or deep fried foods as much as possible.

What is the ketogenic diet for epilepsy?

The ketogenic diet is a diet that almost or completely eliminates carbohydrates from the diet. Food such as rice, bread, pasta and high-sugar fruits are not allowed. Instead, people will eat a diet rich in fat and protein. Children who follow this diet are able to significantly reduce the frequency of seizures.

However, this is a very strict diet. Close surveillance of healthcare practitioners is needed. You need to consult with your doctor first if you want to try it.

What is an elimination diet?

Our body responds differently to different foods. Some foods can cause harmful reactions in the body, such as inflammation or allergies, without us noticing. Some symptoms such as pain, itching, bloating, indigestion, dermatitis, insomnia… can be caused by eating foods that cause such bad reactions.

The elimination diet gradually eliminates specific food groups to detect which food groups your body is not responding well to. After eliminating them for a while, you will consume those foods again to make sure they are the cause of your problem. There are many types of elimination diets. Consult with your doctor and dietitian to learn more.
